The old Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library sign is garbage — literally. For years the only sign identifying the library along A1A, also served as the wall to conceal a dumpster. Construction is currently underway to erect a new sign, with the project slated to be finished early next month. It’s [getting a new sign] is something we’ve been thinking about for a long time," said Friends of the Ponte Vedra Branch Library Executive Board Member, Guy DiCarlo who is spearheading the project. "This is the first time we put ourselves to the task of getting it done. DiCarlo said the new sign will be two-sided so that northbound and southbound traffic along A1A will be able to see it. A concrete wall is being erected around the sign, and various flowers will be planted around it to spruce things up.
"The sign is a matter of sophistication for the library," said DiCarlo. "Previously the only sign that told people this was the library was on the back of our garbage." DiCarlo said the project is funded by Friends of the Ponte Vedra Branch Library but that the sign will be owned by the County. All of the design and construction work on the new sign is being done by local businesses.
